考生應該講足1分鐘嗎?解開DSE英文個人短講6大疑問

雖然DSE英文口試的個人短講部分只有一分鐘,但過去有不少考生因為不了解考試技巧而被大減印象分。其實這短短的一分鐘主要是讓考官用來調整分數,也是考生表現實力的最後機會。

考生發言時需注意什麼?

注意咬字要清晰,語速不宜太快或太慢,經常有考生為求短時間內說出所有論點,因而語速會很快,而且發言時沒有停頓位,令考官難以理解考生的說話,因而減低分數;

 

另外,有許多考生因為太緊張或思考時會慣性說出”er er er”這類口頭禪,建議大家多用”like”, “hmm/emm”, “cuz” 等較順耳的口頭禪去改善印象。

 

考生需要多謝考官提問嗎?

許多考生為免出現空檔,都會習慣先說 “Thank you for your question”。考評局的報告就指出這類句子為 “formulaic expression”,即是罐頭句子,甚至以 “wasted time” (浪費時間)來形容此行為,所以報告建議同學聽到問題後,應該直接回應。

 

考評局鼓勵考生專注於一個中心思想,並利用經驗或想像力去回應。若是遇上 Yes/No question,考生應以 Yes/No 直接回應,之後加以解釋。不過當考生的回答過於簡短,考官將會視內容為 “incomprehensive response”(未能全面回應)。

聽不明白題目該怎辦?

每位考生的確有一次轉問題的機會,但如果你的表現讓考官覺得你沒有嘗試去思考、沒有心去進行溝通,印象分就會大減。再者,考官不會保證新問題會比較簡單,所以建議考生盡力回應。

但同學要留意,如果要求考官更換問題或重覆問題,一分鐘的回應時間並不會重新計算,所以同學更應把握餘下的時間,重點回應,展示出 “high-order thinking”(高階思維)及 “initiative to elaborate on the response”(主動並詳細回應)。

其實口試主要考核考生的英語程度,即使觀點與組織的部份(IO)未能得分,也有機會在其他部份加分。反正考官無論如何都不會重新開始計時,儘管你只明白部份內容,都應按你的理解講述你的立場、解釋、舉列並總結。

考生需要講足一分鐘嗎?

口試其中一個重點是考驗同學的交流能力,所以聽到考官的題目,考生的肢體、表情、回應內容,都會被考官觀察,所以並不是用盡60秒就為之一個好回應。

考評局的報告就建議,考生回答問題應該更深思熟慮,做到言之有物,而非旨在一分鐘裡做到滔滔不絕,內容卻空洞無物。

個人短講該怎樣做才可奪得高分?

對比內容的多少或用字的深淺,這部份更重視考生表達時的流暢度,基本上大家只要主要圍繞主題,簡單表達己見便可。

 

簡單而言,大家聽到問題後,可以花2-3秒去思考一個重點,粗略組織內容,並與考官保持眼神交流,甚至看一看身邊的同學,像正在跟他們交流的樣子。大家也可以善用小組討論中的內容,為自己建立新的論點,同時避免答非所問。最後,以自信的態度去完結整個個人短講,即使餘下數秒亦沒有所謂,因為你已經向考官展示到你的溝通能力。
